HADA awards $375,000 in Scholarships to Houston Students
Three Spring area students receive $3,000 each towards college tuition.

HOUSTON (August 5, 2015) – The Houston Automobile Dealers Association (HADA) issued $375,000 in scholarships to 125 deserving college students this week, providing financial support to Houston area dealership employees, their dependents and AYES students.

Three students from the Spring area received $3,000 scholarships to attend college. Nathan Murphy attending Yale and Reynaldo Cienfuegos attending the University of Houston-Downtown, were selected from Fred Haas Toyota Scion World. Halie Fretwell was selected from the Automotive Youth Program at Carl Wunsche Senior High School and will attend San Jacinto College.

“This means a lot to me,” said Cienfuegos. “This pays most of my tuition this semester, helping me complete my senior year, and allowing me to take classes I’m passionate about, like cultural crisis and Native American archive classes.”

Fretwell plans to put her knowledge back into the automotive industry by continuing to study collision repair and one day open her own shop that will cater to single parents in need of a trusting mechanic.

“Having a single mom, this scholarship helps us financially pay for my first full year of college, and leads me further to achieving my dream of helping others,” said Fretwell.

The HADA sponsored scholarship program is in its 13th year.  In the spring of each year, prospective applicants are screened and selected by a special committee based on financial need, community engagement and academic excellence.  In 2015, HADA awarded 125 $3,000 scholarships to dealership employees, dependents of employees and AYES students.

“HADA is dedicated to assisting dealer employees and their dependents in furthering their education,” said Wyatt Wainwright, president of HADA. “It’s exciting to see these students be grateful for their scholarships and put them to good use.”
