February 10, 2017Being stranded alongside a freeway can be a frightening and potentially dangerous experience. The Houston Automobile Dealers Association launched the Motorist Assistance Program in 1986 to help keep Harris County Freeways safe. Today, more than 18 specially-equipped MAP vehicles driven by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies patrol the roadways to help Houstonians. The deputies keep a watchful eye for motorists who need fuel or other basic roadside assistance.
If you’re ever in need it is easy to get help. Simply call 713-CALL-MAP and Transtar will dispatch a MAP unit to offer you FREE assistance in a timely manner.
Since the MAP program’s inception, HADA has donated and placed 115 new vehicles into service and over 800,000 drivers have been assisted. The program is administered by the Harris County Sheriff’s Department and funded by H-GAC (Houston Galveston Area Council), Texas Department of Transportation, Harris County, Verizon Wireless and HADA.
