September 10, 2025Houston Auto Market Total Sales Up in Q2-2025 v 2024
The Houston automotive market showed a seasonal cooling in Q2-2025 but continues to demonstrate long-term growth. Total YTD sales reached 194,305 units, the highest mid-year volume in six years, despite quarterly sales dropping to 88,210 units, down from Q1-2025.
Key highlights include:
- Retail Sales reached 77,332 units in Q2, down slightly from Q1, but maintaining a strong YTD total of 168,576 units—the highest in recent years.
- SUVs & Trucks dominate, capturing 81.1% of the retail market share, while the auto segment remains steady at 18.9%.
- Electrified vehicles (EVs, hybrids, PHEVs) surged to 23.5% of the total market share, up from 15.9% in Q2-2024, with Toyota leading the segment.
- Suburban dealers saw record-breaking growth, capturing 27.4% market share in June 2025—an all-time high.
- The average retail sales price dropped slightly to $51,782, while fleet sales rose to 12.4% of the total market, suggesting cautious optimism from commercial buyers.
Looking Ahead:
The SUV/truck trend shows no sign of slowing. Expect major new releases in 2026 from Ford (Electric Ranger & Ranchero), Toyota (redesigned RAV4), and VinFast (VF Wild electric truck), among others.
