The Houston auto market wrapped up 2024 with an impressive surge in sales, reinforcing the region’s resilience and consumer confidence. Total vehicle sales for Q4-2024 climbed to 96,263 units, marking an increase from 90,448 in Q3-2024 and significantly surpassing 83,587 in Q4-2023. This upward trajectory was mirrored in retail sales, which jumped to 85,087 units, continuing the year’s steady momentum.
Truck & SUV Dominance Continues
The shift toward larger vehicles remained undeniable as the Truck/SUV segment commanded 80.5% of the retail market, setting yet another record high. With 68,478 units sold in Q4-2024, this category continues to outpace traditional auto sales, which saw a slight dip to 19.5% market share. Annual figures further reinforce this trend, as retail Truck/SUV sales reached 254,687 units in 2024, up from 245,456 in 2023.
Price Trends and Market Dynamics
The average retail sales price for Q4-2024 settled at $51,269, reflecting a minor increase from the previous quarter but a slight decline from Q4-2023. Truck/SUV prices remained notably higher at $54,124. Meanwhile, fleet sales—often an indicator of broader business investment—rose to 11.7% market share, up from 10.3% in Q3-2024.
Electrified Vehicles Maintain Growth
Electric and hybrid vehicles continued their steady rise, accounting for 17.9% of the market in 2024, proving that consumer interest in alternative fuel options remains strong.
